BFA Modern Dance Performance, University of Michigan
Teacher // Choreographer // Performer

Modern dance is a style which centers on a dancer's experiences and artistic interpretations. It is used to explore the sensations of movement as well as to express your innermost emotions. Cara is greatly influenced by dance artists Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Lar Lubovitch, and Doug Varone.
In Cara's class, you will focus on learning movement through anatomy. It is by learning about the human form, that one is able to manipulate and control their body as it moves through space. You will also explore the use of breath and how it connects to, and can influence movement.
Techniques such as fall and recovery, visualization, improvisation, utilizing your center of gravity, contractions and expansions of the torso and flexing of the spine are all tools used and explored in class. Through the study and practice of modern dance, one can gain flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness to allow total freedom of expression.
Cara performed 2 seasons with the Michigan Dance Collective, 2 seasons with the United Way Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show, was an apprentice with the Peter Sparling Dance Company, and has performed works by Lar Lubovitch, Doug Varone, Paul Taylor, Peter Sparling, Sandra Torijano, and Tommy Scrivens. She is currently performing as a guest artist with the Malashock Dance Company.
